As many of you may already know there have been a few hurricanes and storms ravaging the Northeast lately. I wont say many words and hope the pictures will speak for themselves. The pictures are not meant to be artistic, but rather just to point out the hopelessness that some people feel, and the sheer weight of material that people had to throw out of their homes after the following flooding from all the rain. For specifications, the much media followed 2006 flood in Binghamton New York was a big deal because it went above flood walls. This time the flood was even worse. The Susquehanna river rose more than 30 feet according to some reports, which was above the 2006 flood levels.
While out taking photographs for this blog, I came across a man named Jim (Above). Jim was out cleaning his house and taking all his belongings to the curb. Jim turned out to be a nice man who got stuck in the second round of flooding. Unfortunately Jim has yet to receive any funding or reimbursement from the first disastrous flooding that happened in 2006, and 2011 was even worse for him as the water rose 10 ft higher around his home than the last time and made it not just into the basement, but also into the first floor of his home. Jim even had to be taken out by marsh-boat from his home after trying to save it with water pumps, etc... Needless to say the water pumps couldn't keep up with the 60,000 gallons of water that filled his basement to the very top. Please keep all the victims of the flooding in your prayers, and help any way you can by donating blood to the Red Cross or Food to Chow, etc...
